A tiny photographic exhibition of Lucien Clergue located on the floors above the chapel and the museum "Treasure of Notre Dame de Vie".
Lucien Clergue portraitist and southern photographer
About fifteen beautiful photo prints on two floors mainly presents portraits of artists, made on the Côte d'Azur. Lucien Clergue (1934-2014), whom we had the chance to meet and especially listen to during interventions on the French Riviera, shows here its proximity to artists such as Picasso, a real Mougins muse.
Proximity to his subjects
The photographer reminds us through his works the importance, first and even before using his camera, to be accepted by his subject, and therefore in a way to understand it. Any zoom lens will never replace a certain empathy and closeness with the people we photograph. To tame his subject, to approach it, to be forgotten to better be able to spin around like an invisible toreador. The famous photo-reporter Robert Capa summed it up by this maxim: "If your photography is not good, it's because you were not close enough".
The Chapel Notre Dame de Vie in Mougins as an air of Tuscany on the French Riviera
The prints come from the collection of the museum of classical art of Mougins, thanks to a loan granted to the city of Mougins. We advise you to visit the friendly village of Mougins on our blog Irresistible Riviera here: https://www.irresistible-riviera.fr/en/do/visit-mougins but also by yourself, physically. You should not be disappointed by this tourist village, bathed in arts and gastronomy. The Notre Dame de Vie chapel, where the exhibition is located, is equally interesting for its calm, its garden, the small museum on the ground floor of the exhibition and the visit of the chapel.
